Warrior women beat Hawks, still unbeaten


WALLA WALLA — Walla Walla Community College beat Columbia Basin 4-1 Saturday to remain unbeaten in the NWAACC East Region.

Columbia Basin scored six minutes into the second half to momentarily knot the match at 1-1, but the Warriors regrouped to take the lead for good less than a minute later and went on to score two more goals to secure the victory. The Warriors stand first in the East at 7-0-1.

Alli Madril gave WWCC the lead when she converted a Julie Belden assist into a 1-0 Warrior lead at the 43rd minute mark.

The Hawks tied it as Jenna Ballandby scored in the 51st, but WWCC replied less than a minute following the ensuing kick off as Delaney Romero converted Shauntice Perrigo’s assist into a 2-1 lead.

Oryian Matheny gave the Warriors some space as she connected off a Olivia Rodgers assist in the 62nd minute for a 3-1 lead. Amanda Jones added the clincher off a Madril assist in the 77th minute.

Hawks keeper Dakota Wickard made 12 saves on the match.

The Warriors travel to Spokane Wednesday to take on the second-place Sasquatch.
