Surrounded by her family, lifetime resident, Esther M. (Zahl) Dixon passed away at her family home on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013. Esther will be missed by family and many, many friends and remembered as the stalwart, fun-loving matriarch of the Dixon family.
Esther was born Feb. 24, 1923. She lived her 90 years in Walla Walla and dedicated her life to her family, friends and her community. She volunteered her time to the YWCA, Camp Fire, March of Dimes, American Heart Association and many others. For over 35 years, she gave her time and talents as a weekly volunteer for the textile division at Fort Walla Walla Museum. Esther married Dale Dixon in June of 1943 in San Francisco. They had been married 63 years at the time of his death.
She is survived by her three children and spouses, Susan (Ken) Butherus, Sally Dixon Harmon of Walla Walla, Steve (Terry) Dixon of Carlton, Wash.; four grandchildren, Heather (David) Dalan and eight great-grandchildren of Walla Walla, Heath (Michelle) Harmon and two great-grandchildren of Spokane, Sarah Dixon and Peter Dixon of Carlton, Wash.; sister, Helen Kerr of Walla Walla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Dixon; granddaughter, Stephanie Butherus Refalt of Kennewick.
A private family service will be held in the future in San Francisco. Memorial contributions can be made in her honor to Fort Walla Walla Museum through Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater. Gone but never forgotten!
