TACOMA – The Whitman College women’s soccer team lost their second-straight 1-0 decision Sunday as Pacific Lutheran scored in the second minute of the match, and then held on to win the Northwest Conference matchup.
The Lutes improve to 3-0-3 in conference and 5-2-3 overall, the Missionaries are now 3-5 and 7-5.
With 1:10 burned off the game clock, Mariah Rasmussen knocked in a corner kick that was sent into the box by Blake Warner. Rasmussen placed the ball past the left-side of Whitman goalie Emily Davis. It was the only shot on-goal the Lutes would fire all afternoon.
Whitman had four shots on target and 10 in all. The Lutes managed five shots in a match that was primarily a defensive battle.
The Missionaries applied pressure in the second half with shots on-goal by Elise Lauren, Jade Anderson and Mackenzie Hughes, but each time PLU goalkeeper Takara Mitsui made the save.
Whitman comes home to host George Fox at noon on Sunday.
