Gender identity discrimination the focus of talks, film in October

WALLA WALLA — The Walla Walla Diversity Coalition will focus on discrimination due to sexual and/or gender identity for the 19th annual Freedom From Discrimination Month. There will three events in October.

On Thursday, Masen Davis of the Transgender Law Center will give a talk, “The Movement of Our Time: LGBT Equality at the Crossroads,” at 7 p.m., in Whitman College’s Maxey Hall.

On Oct. 17 at 7 p.m., Jack Halberstam of the University of Southern California, and author of “Gaga Feminism: Sex, Gender and the End of Normal,” will lecture in Maxey Hall.

On Oct. 29 at 7 p.m., the award-winning film “Call Me Kuchu” will be shown in the Kimball Theatre, Hunter Conservatory, at Whitman College. The film documents the struggle for gay rights in Uganda.
