Parthenia Gabel

Sept. 20, 1932 — Oct. 3, 2013

Walla Walla resident “Parthy” Gabel, 81, died Oct. 3, 2013, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center, 401 W. Poplar. “Parthy” was born Sept. 20, 1932, in Swain County, N.C., to William C. and Beaulah Nations. She attended schools in Swain County. In 1951 she moved to the Walla Walla area, where she and Herman “Hammy” Gabel were married.

A homemaker, Parthy enjoyed friends and family, and spent time reading her Bible and attended the Lutheran church. She was an awesome cook and a carefree and compassionate person. Many times she helped people who were down on their luck. She never met an enemy, and often Parthenia told people that her name meant “Greek Goddess.” Known as the neighborhood mom, all the kids went to her house after school. Her family remembers she was the prettiest, and they all knew why.

Parthy is survived by two sons, Tim Gabel and James Holder; three sisters, Willie Shepherd, Juanita Deal, Irene Shuford; seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, “Hammy” in 2002; one daughter, Alice Stiltner; three sisters; two brothers in infancy; one great-granddaughter, Holly Holderman; and a nephew, Floyd Henline.

The memorial service will be 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt, 1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla Walla. Pastor Steve Morris will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Providence St. Mary Regional Cancer Center through the funeral home. Friends may write memories and sign the online guestbook at www.mountainview-colonialdewitt.com.
