WALLA WALLA — The Walla Walla Valley Academy volleyball team cruised to a straight-set Southeast 2B League victory over DeSales, 25-17, 26-24, 25-22, in the Irish gym on Thursday.
The Knights’ (6-4 overall, 4-3 in SE2B play) head coach Scott Schafer said his team did a great job of battling in an extremely close match.
“The team did a great job of pulling together and coming back when down in those close sets,” Schafer said. “The girls have been learning to let the game come to them instead of forcing things down the stretch.”
Amy Arnzen put down 10 kills to go with four digs for the Knights. Hope Heaton finished with a team-high five blocks and Krista Schafer recorded 11 assists. Rylee Sutton went 15-of-15 serving and added four digs.
DeSales head coach Hailee Rogers said her team made too many errors during key points, which proved costly.
“This was a hard-fought match on both sides,” Rogers said. “The girls did a really great job and competed really well. I was very proud of how hard we worked and that we never gave up.”
Alyssa James and Claire Conley combined for 13 kills, as James also chipped in seven digs and a block. Conley also finished 13-of-13 serving for the Irish.
Hannah Leahy went 10-of-11 from the service line and added 14 digs. Teresa Acock had 14 digs to go along with two assists.
Allesyn Lyon finished with a team-high 11 assists, as she went 10-of-12 serving.
DeSales heads to Tri-Cities Prep Tuesday.
