MILTON-FREEWATER — McLoughlin’s Josie Lonai ran to a fourth place finish here in the girls 5,000 meter cross country race at Mac-Hi’s Gut Buster Friday. Lonai crossed after Pendleton’s Delaney Clem won in 19:40.52.
Two Union runners finished second (Katriel O’Reilly) and third (McKenzie Evans) to propel Union to the team title with 28 points. Lonai was next in a run of 20:47.28 as the Pioneers finished fifth.
On the boys side, Pendleton’s Nolan Bylenga turned the course in 16:57.65 to win the race and lead the Bucks to the team title.
Austin Cousineau led the Pioneer contingent with a 15th finish in 18:06.95. The Pioneers finished sixth.
Waitsburg-Prescott ran to eighth place in the team standing as E.J. Meserve led the way with a 17th place run in 18:25.30 over the 5,000 meter course.
W-P’s Emily Adams was the lone representative for W-P on the girls side and Adams ran a 21:26.42 to finish seventh.
For the Pioneers, Susie Romero-diaz took ninth in 21:55.13. Maria Saldana (26:55.30), Mindy Harmon (27:58.39), and Daisy Velasco (30:42.73) completed the scoring for the fifth place Pioneers.
Andrew Cain was the next, after Cousineau, Pioneer to finish as Cain ran a 19:31.35 to finish 28th. Cody Harmon (20:19.55), Tistan Warne (20:43.67) and Raudel Garcia (21:03.05) rounded out the scoring Pioneers.
After Meserve, W-P’s scoring runners were Skylar Wood (21:07.68), Kyle Gradwohl (21:10.30), Jared Farley (21:52.73), and Tyler Shafer (22:52.73).
