HEPPNER, Ore. — Weston-McEwen lost its second set to Heppner here Saturday in Blue Mountain Conference volleyball action. Heppner tied the match at 1-1, but the TigerScots righted the ship to win the next two sets, 25-18 and 25-20 to take the match 3-1. In the nightcap, the TigerScots ran their league record to 13-0 with a 3-0 win, 25-18, 25-12, and 25-6, over Pilot Rock.
“Heppner is an athletic team and they came out and played well,” TigerScot coach Shawn White said of W-M second-set loss. “It was good to face a little pressure. We responded well and took care of business.”
Taryn Coffman dished out 58 assists and Keegan Shepard and Molly vonBorstel converted those assists as both vonBorstel and Shepard finished with 22 kills. Shepard led the way against Heppner with 13 of her 22 kills against the Mustangs.
Taryn Rudolph led the TigerScot servers with a perfect 24-of-24 from the service line. Betsy West protected the TigerScot net with 11 blocks. Natalie Arnold came up with 31 digs and Danni Dearing added 21 digs to the W-M defensive effort. Dearing also recorded a team-high eight aces from the service line.
“It was one of those days,” White said. “It was homecoming week and we all were a little tired. It was good to play through that. We had to play tough and that pleased me that we did.”
The TigerScots finally return for a home match Thursday as Elgin visits. The TigerScots will celebrate Senior night with a special recognition for breast cancer awareness.
