MCMINNVILLE, Ore. — Linfield pulled out three close sets to hand Whitman a 3-0 loss here Saturday in Northwest League volleyball action. The Wildcats defended their home court with a 27-25, 25-23, 25-23 win.
The Victory was the Wildcat’s first NWC win and improved their conference record to 1-7. The loss drops the Missionaries to 3-5 and 5-16.
Linfield was led by Victoria Thompson who had a match-high 15 kills. Whitman’s Jillian Davis had 10 kills and 12 defensive digs to lead the Missionaries.
In the first set, neither team led by more than three points. With Linfield serving for the set at 25-24, a Natalia Zea kill tied things up and put the set into extra points. Linfield reeled off two quick points, the winner coming on a kill by Kailana Ritte-Camara, to win the set.
Whitman gave up the lead at 7-6 in the second set, and the Wildcats kept the lead the rest of the way to post a 25-23 win.
The third set saw the Missionaries lead late, taking a 22-19 advantage on a service ace from Hannah Linsenmayer. Linfield drew even at 22-all on a Thompson kill, then proceeded to close out the set and match on Thompson’s fifteenth and final kill of the night.
Whitman travels to Portland to battle Lewis & Clark in a NWL counter.
