Suspect in Walla Walla attacks set for December trial

WALLA WALLA — A suspect accused of participating in attacks on two men in the Eastgate area in May is set for trial starting Dec. 16 in Walla Walla County Superior Court.

Emil E. Zamora, 22, of 1107 W. Chestnut St., Apt. B, pleaded innocent Monday afternoon to charges of first-degree robbery, second-degree assault and riot.

He is one of five suspects allegedly involved in attacks on Cody J. Watson and Ryan C. Larson in the 300 block of North Blue Street about 2 a.m. May 10. The assailants were claiming affiliations with a local gang, according to a police report filed in court.

Some of the attackers went through Watson’s pockets — allegedly taking miscellaneous items — and took off in a car.

Apparently no weapons were involved.

Watson was treated at Providence St. Mary Medical Center for a concussion, a nasal fracture and lacerations.

Police have no clear motive. Neither Watson nor Larson has any known gang affiliation.

Charges were filed after police interviewed witnesses.

Zamora turned himself over to authorities on Oct. 2, reportedly after learning a warrant had been issued for his arrest. He later was released on house arrest.

The other defendants facing identical charges are still at large.

They are identified as Juan M. Alejandre, 26, of 1108 W. Pine St.; Mario R. Deleon, 30, of 440 Sprague Ave., and his cousin, Thomas C. Deleon, 24, of Pasco; and Ray R. Gutierrez, 24, of 319 N. Seventh Ave.
