PASCO — Walla Walla High School’s girls soccer team fell to Chiawana here Tuesday, 5-0.
“The girls continue to impress me with their willingness to battle in the face of adversity,” Blue Devils coach Keven Peck said. “After being down 5-0 at the half, it would have been easy to quit. But, these girls have invested too much time and effort in their development; quitting is not an option.”
Braydey Hodgins scored the Riverhawks’ first two goals, finding the net in the 18th and 22nd minutes.
Alexis Stephenson made it 3-0 in the 25th minute, followed by Molly Sullivan’s goal in the 32nd, and Stephenson picked up here second goal of the match in the 34th minute.
“The last three matches, the girls have continued to improve in our physical play,” Peck said. “Tonight was a showcase of how far they have come. We allowed them little time on the ball and left no ball unchallenged. With each match, the girls continue to earn respect from their opponent.”
Chiawana outshot the Blue Devils 15-4 in the match.
“Regardless of our results, I am pleased with our progress,” Peck said. “I can’t ask for any more than the girls are giving. We have to focus on finding success in the building blocks of soccer. And, in that context we have been very successful.”
Wa-Hi, 1-9, hosts Pasco at 4 p.m. Thursday.
