MILTON-FREEWATER — Several shots were fired Thursday around 5:20 p.m. at the intersection of Northwest Eighth Avenue and Russell Street.

Two men were held by police in connection with the incident.

One bullet hit a camper trailer and another bullet hit the side window of an orange Dodge Neon that sped away.

According to Police Chief Doug Boedigheimer, about 10 minutes after the shots, officers were attempting to stop and question Johnny Diaz, 23, of Milton-Freewater, when he fled.

After a brief chase, Diaz was caught and, while apprehending him, police said a 9 mm pistol fell from his clothing.

A few minutes later, police were questioning Salvador Diaz, 25, and learned that he had a concealed .380 caliber pistol.

Both men were arrested on suspicion of unlawful possession of a concealed firearm.

Johnny Diaz was also arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm and for alleged drug possession.

It remains unclear who may have been the target of the shots fired, Boedigheimer said.
