McMorris Rodgers will only follow party line

Shortly after the government shutdown, I watched an interview on CNN with our congresswoman, Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers.

Since she represents a conservative district in a liberal state, I thought she should know how to negotiate with Democrats when it really matters.

She occupies the fourth most powerful position in the Republican leadership in the House, so surely she would be using that power to bring some reason to Washington, D.C.

Instead, what I heard was scripted, party-line rhetoric against Obamacare and no hint of willingness to negotiate. She shared people’s anxiety about what the changes will bring, but offered no alternative for the 17 percent of her state’s citizens who lack health insurance. What a failure of leadership on her part!

Like it or not, Obamacare is now law and funding must be provided according to its legislative mandates. Shutting down other functions of the government will not change that.

The only question now is how much damage to our economy and system of government our congresswoman and others will exact on us before finally giving in.

Instead of fixing the problems so the 17% can achieve insurance, 100% of all of us are going to struggle with healthcare issues. (Using your numbers)

Cathy was elected to represent the conservative 5th district. I would say she tried to do what we ask her to do. I would guess that she will be reprimanded at elections for not sticking to those issues.

Chuck, if you want a liberal moron to represent you then i would suggest you move to portland or the west side. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers is doing just fine.

Mr Hindman - you fail to include how Obamacare was passed? If you would recall that this Healthcare Plan was passed along partisan lines without any Republican input. You remember when Ms Pelosi stated "we have to pass the legislation to find out whats in it"? Well when you finally find out whats really in it you may be taking a deep breath and wondering why you even posted this letter.

Economists are continually stating that half of the legislation that was passed has not even been presented to the citizens yet - but you wait until it all does!

I'm sure there are numerous examples of legislation passing with the support of one party. I do find it odd that the original ACA was to be single payer, just like medicare. The Republicans fought to remove that and many other things, so to say they had no input is false. Back to Rep. McMorris, I have voted for her in the past, however, I will not vote for her again. In the her more recent terms, she has shown that backing the Republican party line and the Speaker are much more important than representing ALL of her constituents in Eastern Wa.

I am guessing there will several people changing they're votes with Cathy. But I don't think all of them are or the same as you stated. I will not be voting for her due she didn't tow the conservative line in the end. She voted to cave etc. She is elected to serve as a representative of a very conservative 26th dist. She signed on to do that job, not represent other more liberal districts. Even though I am not a republican I am more often than not a vote for conservative issues, so she lost my vote, too.
