ATHENA — The Weston-McEwen volleyball team finished the season unbeaten in the Blue Mountain Conference with wins against Union and Stanfield Saturday.
The TigerScots (26-1, 16-0) beat both opponents in straight sets, 25-13, 25-13, 25-23 against Union and 25-7, 25-11, 25-1 against Stanfield. Head coach Shawn White said the TigerScots set a goal of going undefeated in conference play before the season began.
“It was satisfying, we were very pleased they accomplished that,” White said. “It’s difficult when you have as many teams in the league as we do. It’s a tough league and to get that consistency over the entire year is an accomplishment.”
Molly von Borstel led the TigerScots with 25 digs, 28 kills and five aces during the two-game series. She also went 30-for-30 serving.
“Molly is an outstanding player,” White said. “(She’s) one of the best that has come through here. She’s really playing at a high level in all parts of her game. Offensively, she is really hard to stop. She really set the tone for us.”
Danni Dearing finished with 14 digs and went a stupefying 47-of-47 serving with eight aces. White said Dearing’s placement on serves was key in the match against Stanfield. Melanie Sederburg added 18 kills and went 10-of-10 serving.
Taryn Coffman finished with a team-high 43 assists in the two matches. Natalie Arnold also added 27 digs.
Weston-McEwen faces Dayton Wednesday.
