SPOKANE — Waitsburg-Prescott hiked its season soccer record to 9-4 here Friday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over Valley Christian in a non-league contest.
Ivan Figueroa and Rodrigo Gonzales tallied first-half goals and Christian Caro tacked on an insurance goal in the second half.
Figueroa’s score, which came nine minutes into the match, and Caro’s goal, in the 46th minute, were unassisted. Gonzales scored at the 19-minute mark on an assist from Alberto Mendez.
Caro worked the first half in goal for W-P and stopped one Valley Christian shot. Oscar Garcia posted a pair of saves in the second half after taking over the goalkeeper duties.
W-P was credited with 28 shots in the match.
“It’s a win on the road and that is always good,” W-P assistant coach Jay Potts said. “We played well, and a lot of kids got to see time on the field.”
Waitsburg-Prescott returns to District 9 play Wednesday when it entertains Dayton in Prescott. W-P defeated the Bulldogs 8-0 on Oct. 2 when the teams met for the first time.
“We are going to play it like it is going to be a tough match,” Potts said. “All we are doing is working on getting better for the playoffs.”
W-P won the Class 2B state title in 2011 but was knocked out during the quarterfinal round last year.
