WALLA WALLA — A benefit dinner will be held Oct. 30 for a local businessman and photographer who has been hospitalized for acute severe pancreatitis, according to his family and friends.

Brian S. Gaines was taken by air ambulance to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane after being admitted to Providence St. Mary Medical Center earlier this month.

Gaines has owned downtown furniture stores and a photography business here, and has been involved in numerous community events, such as Wheelin’ Walla Walla Weekend.

He is on blood dialysis for extremely high triglyceride count and to improve kidney function, said Gaines’ wife, Tracy Gaines.

The illness is expected to keep Gaines hospitalized for at least a month, with a long recovery period afterward, said family friend Randy Grudzinski.

Life Church in Walla Walla will host a benefit dinner at the Walla Walla County fairgrounds, catered by A Chef’s Creation. Live music will be on hand.

Admission is freewill donation. An auction will include donated local goods and services; donations are sought and can be brought to the church at 116 S. Third Ave.

A benefit account for Gaines has been established at Baker Boyer Bank; donations can be made at any branch.
