WALLA WALLA — After rallying to win the fourth set, the Walla Walla High School volleyball team lost the deciding fifth set.
Wa-Hi (4-12, 3-10) opened the match with a 25-17 win, before dropping the following two sets, 25-23, 25-4. The Blue Devils rebounded with a 25-20 win in the fourth set, but could not sustain the momentum and dropped the fifth set, 15-12.
Head coach Don Hepker said the Blue Devils lost focus midway through the match, which resulted in too many unforced errors.
“Our girls battled for every point in this match,” Hepker said. “The team rallied together and won (the fourth set) but couldn’t hold the momentum. This was senior night and all the seniors stepped it up and played their hearts out.”
Madi Dopeker led the Blue Devils with 19 kills and 13 digs. Reece Carman, who left the match with an injury in the fourth set, added six kills and nine digs.
Lily Kaminski led Wa-Hi with 19 assists and Katie Greene racked up 14 assists and 18 digs. Jacie McDaniels finished with 17 digs.
The Blue Devils host Richland at 7 p.m. tonight.
