WALLA WALLA COUNTY — A federal grant will help local families weather emergency situations in the coming year.
Walla Walla County will receive $22,545 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs here, said Christy Druffel, executive director of United Way of Walla Walla County. The money is dispersed by the U. S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA.
A board consisting of United Way, YWCA, Salvation Army, Blue Mountain Action Council, Helpline and community members will decide how the dollars will be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs here, Druffel said in a news release.
Nonprofit or government agencies applying for the money must be eligible to receive federal funds, have an accounting system in place, practice nondiscrimination and shown to be able to deliver emergency food or shelter programs.
Deadline for application is Oct. 31. Those interested in applying can send requests to Local EFSP Board, P.O. Box 1134, Walla Walla WA 99362. For more information call Druffel at 529-1183.
