ONTARIO — Mac-Hi’s girls soccer team took a 4-2 win over the Ontario Tigers Saturday.
The match concludes the Pioneers’ regular season, which Mac-Hi finished at 7-6 (4-2 in the Greater Oregon League).
The Pioneer placed second in the GOL, good enough to host a state play-in game this weekend, for which the time and opponent are be determined.
Veronica Garcia opened scoring for Mac-Hi Saturday on an assist from Makia Carlson.
Alexis Breeding scored two more goals in the first half for Mac-Hi on assists from Carlson.
“The two cross passes from Makia to Alexis were almost perfect,” Mac-Hi coach Martin Martinez said. “They crossed right into the box and away from the goalie. Then Alexis just kicked them in. We practiced it yesterday and did it well today.”
The Tigers pulled to within 3-2 on a corner kick and a penalty kick, but Kristi Childers padded the Pioneer after Breeding knocked a shot off the keeper and Childers booted it in to score.
Childers had previously put four shots on goal before the score.
Martinez said the most valuable player of the game may have been Carlson, who also had six shots on goal and the three excellent passes that lead to goals.
“We hope to keep it going well throughout the playoffs,” Martinez said.
