MILTON-FREEWATER — Josie Lonai and Susie Romero-diaz took second and fourth to lead the Mac-Hi girls at the district cross country meet Saturday.
Lonai (20:37.50) and Romero-diaz (21:35.10) both qualified for state.
“Josie didn’t have her best day,” Mac-Hi coach John Milleson said. “She was recovering from being sick and missing a meet last week but she did well. She lead most of the race and got passed up by Dakota Steen in the downhill portion of the race to take second.”
Three senior boys runners finished their cross country careers at Mac-Hi in the district run. They were Andrew Kain, who finished 26th (19:13.10), Raudel Garcia 36th (20:09.30) and Mario Carillo 41st (21:58.50).
“Andrew ran well for me for four years,” Milleson said. “He ran solidly as my No. 2 all year long and had a good race today.”
Lonai, a junior, has taken 11th in state the past two years. Romero-diaz, a junior, took 14th in state last season.
“Hopefully, with good health and a good race,” Milleson said, “both of our girl runners can crack the top ten in state this year.”
The race will be held Saturday at Lane Comunity College in Eugene.
