UNION — Top-ranked Weston-McEwen swept Union 3-0 in the Blue Mountain Conference volleyball tournament championship Saturday, but not before Union put up a fight.
The Bobcats took the TigerScots to extra points in the first game before falling 28-26, fell 25-19 in the second game and 25-23 in the third.
As the regular-season champion, Weston-McEwen got a bye into the championship game and now advances to the 16-team state playoffs beginning Saturday.
The all-BMC teams were released after the tournament.
Paving the way for Saturday’s victory was league most valuable player Molly vonBorstel, who had 12 kills and four aces.
BMC first teamers Taryn Coffman (25 assists) and Natalie Arnold (15 digs) were heavy contributors in the match as well.
Second-team honorees included Keegan Shepard (five kills, four blocks) and Melanie Sederburg (five kills).
Danni Dearing got honorable mention and had seven digs, 15-for-15 serving with three aces.
