PASCO — The Walla Walla High School volleyball team ended its season with a frustrating four-set loss to Pasco here Tuesday in a Mid-Columbia Conference 4A district tournament match.
Head coach Don Hepker said the Blue Devils controlled the match from start to finish. Pasco opened the match with a 25-23 win in the first set, before Wa-Hi rallied to win the second set, 27-25. The Bulldogs won the final two sets, 25-23, 25-23, to take the match.
“Pasco did a great job of tipping and keeping the ball in play, but we decided when the rally was done — by a great play or an error,” Hepker said. “Lack of communication was our biggest problem.”
Madi Doepker racked up 26 kills for the Blue Devils, as well as 13 digs and three aces. Reece Carman added nine kills and four blocks and Jaime Quaresma finished with seven kills and five aces.
“I’m used to getting big numbers out of Madi and Reece but it was great seeing Jaime have such a good match,” Hepker said. “Our middles, Kennedy Yonts and Paige Parsons, did an amazing job of closing the blocks and funneling their hitters at our passers.”
The Wa-Hi middles pushed the ball toward Lily Kaminski and Katie Green, who combined for 45 assists.
Jacie McDaniels recorded an ace and 13 digs, and Amelia Hemenway picked up eight digs, two kills and a block.
“This was our seniors’ last match for Wa-Hi,” Hepker said. “They all stepped up and will be missed next year.”
