Students raise money to pay for dance competition, tour in Europe - Etcetera - 10/30/13


Eleven Walla Walla students are earning money to pay their way for a two-week international dance competition and tour in Europe in summer 2014, according to Heidi Dobson in a release.

The 11- to 17-year-olds will host two Halloween parties on Thursday for kids. The one for 3- to 6-year-olds will be from 4-5 p.m. and the other party for kids ages 7-11 years old will be from 5:30-6:30 p.m., both at The Dance Center, 129 E. Alder St., Suite B.

Admission is $5 per child and tickets will be fore sale at the door.

Under the direction of Idalee Hutson-Fish, local dance students plan to represent the city of Walla Walla and The Dance Center this coming summer in the Dance Grand Prix Europe.

In anticipation of their own production of the musical “Grease” planned for January, Lincoln High School students are sponsoring a free showing of the classic 1978 feature film Saturday at the M-F Drive-in Theater, 84322 Oregon Highway 11, Milton-Freewater.

The gates will open at 6:30 p.m. and the show will screen at 7 p.m. Admission is free, but any financial donations will help fund the Lincoln drama program. Costumed Lincoln students will take tickets. Their performance of the popular production will be presented at the Gesa Power House Theatre, 111 N. Sixth Ave., in Walla Walla.

The County for a Cure team is hosting a flapjack breakfast fundraiser from 8-10 a.m. Saturday to benefit the American Cancer Society Relay For Life fundraiser.

It will be at Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill, 1604 Plaza Way. Four dollars of the $8 cost will go to the American Cancer Society. Breakfast includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, orange juice and coffee.
