PASCO — Walla Walla High School’s girls soccer season came to an end in overtime with a 1-0 district loser-out match against Pasco at Edgar Brown Stadium here Tuesday.

“The girls played their best match of the season tonight,” Blue Devils coach Keven Peck said. “We possessed the ball and created chances on goal.

Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we didn’t find the back of the net,” he said. “We defended well and peaked in the areas that have been a training focus – off-the-ball running, challenging for every ball and maintaining possession. It was a lot of fun to watch the girls play with confidence and composure.”

The Bulldogs’ Josie Derrick netted the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute after a scoreless regular session.

Pasco had 10 shots on goal in the match, while Wa-Hi put three on target.

“These girls should be commended for the manner in which they handled a tough season,” Peck said of the Blue Devils’ 1-14 record. “They didn’t match up well with six of the seven teams in our league. Regardless, the girls continued to show up every day, they honored their commitment to each other and the program and they never quit. Ultimately, those life lessons will prove more valuable than if they had won every match.

“I am really proud to of the physical, mental and emotional progress they made over the course of the season.”
