SPOKANE — Midfielder Jade Anderson scored with less than five minutes remaining against Carroll University and the Whitman College women’s soccer team held on for a 1-0 victory Sunday afternoon at the Whitworth Soccer Classic, improving the Missionaries’ early season record to 2-0.
Anderson received a pass from midfielder Hallie Swan and fired a shot into the upper corner of the net at the 85:20 mark. It was Anderson’s first goal of the season and Swan’s first assist.
Much like their 7-0 win against Northwest Christian Friday night, the Missionaries controlled the ball and had a decisive edge in shots — 20-4.
Whitman had five shots on-goal to Carroll’s three.
Missionary goalkeeper Emily Davis played the entire game and made three saves.
The Missionaries now set their sights on California, where they will take on La Verne on Sept. 7 and the University of Redlands the following day as they participate in the UC Santa Cruz tournament.
