Wa-Hi finished Lewiston tourney 1-2

LEWISTON — Walla Walla High School went 1-2 here Saturday in volleyball action at the Lewiston tournament.

The Blue Devils opened the season with a straight set win over St. Maries, Idaho. Wa-Hi took the opening set 25-17 and clinched the match with a 25-18 victory in the second set.

Genesee, Idaho, handed the Blue Devils a two-set loss as Genesee prevailed 25-20 and 25-16.

In Wa-Hi’s third match, Sand Point, Idaho trimmed the Blue Devils 25-13 and 25-12.

“When our passes were good, we controlled the point, but when our passes were off, we gave away points,” Blue Devil coach Don Hepker said. “We’ll be focusing on that pass at practice Monday to get ready for our first league (Mid Columbia Conference) match on Tuesday.”

Reece Carmen led the Wa-Hi hitters with 16 kills. Katie Greene dished out 18 assists. Madi Doepker put up nine kills, dug up 10 returns and posted two blocks. From the serving line, Carmen and Greene each blasted four aces. Jamie Quaresma finished with six kills and assisted on eight hits.

“Reece and Madi did a good job being effective on the outside,” Hepker said. “But our serve receive let us down.”

The Blue Devils open MCC play with a trip to the Lions den in Kennewick Tuesday.
