Alice was born on June 2, 1921, to Silva Saxton Hanek and Wencil Adolph Hanek. She was proud that her mother arrived to the West in a covered wagon and her father came west from Bohemia. The family lived in the Palouse area and in 1926, moved to the Tum-A-Lum area to be close to schools. She attended local schools and graduated from the Walla Walla Business College as an accountant.

Alice married George Walker in 1942 and they had 70 years together. They enjoyed the outdoors, entertaining, golfing, traveling in their RV and spending many winters in Arizona.

Alice was a volunteer in many community activities. She was past president of the Freewater Garden Club; past president of the American Legion Auxiliary; past Worthy Matron of Loyalty Chapter 47, Eastern Star; belonged to the Milton-Freewater Golf Club; active at the YMCA, swimming often there; active in R.S.V.P and was a member of the Ingle Chapel Congregational Church.

Alice spent the last few years of her life surrounded by loving and caring angels. Tammy Morris, Samantha Magnison, Mary LeGrande and Tammy Hernandez. Alice’s family wishes to give these fine ladies special acknowledgement and sincere thanks for the excellent love and care they provided for both Alice and George. Their kindness will never be forgotten.

Alice enjoyed life to the fullest and loved her home and cabin in the Blue Mountains. She always called Oregon “God’s Country.” She loved a good joke and her motto was that everyone needs a good belly laugh once a day. She loved her family and friends and will be missed greatly by all.

Alice is survived by two daughters, Cathy (Mike) Buckley of Boring, Ore., and Deena Walker of Walla Walla; two sons, Alan (Jeanne) Walker of Milton-Freewater, and Brian (Teri) Walker of Walla Walla; eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
