Pirates net win over Bulldogs

DAYTON — Pomeroy picked up its opening volleyball victory of the season in three sets over Dayton here Tuesday, 25-18, 25-16, 25-17.

Savannah Ruark led the way for the Pirates with nine kills and nine blocks.

Mackenzie Monahan had eight kills, Ireland Mayfield dished out 23 assists, three digs and had two aces, and Kacey Halbert also had two aces.

For the Bulldogs, Madison Mings was 13-for-13 serving with five and 10 digs, and Josilyn Fullerton recorded eight assists, seven digs, four kills and two blocks.

“Dayton is a very scrappy team,” Pomeroy coach Bruce Crossfield said. “You always have to feel good when you can get a road win.”

The Pirates, 1-0 overall, host Asotin at 6 p.m. Thursday.

The Bulldogs, 0-1, play in the Waitsburg-Prescott Tournament Saturday.
