RICHLAND — Walla Walla High School’s 200-yard medley relay team took a third place ribbon here Friday to lead the Blue Devils at the Richland Twilight girls swimming meet.
Mackenzie Hale, Natalie Fink, Lacey Klem, and Kaelie Coleman turned in a 2:12.11 swim to place third.
“We were battling a few illnesses and many nerves,” Wa-Hi coach Katharine Curles said of Wa-Hi’s opening meet. “It was great to watch the nerves lessen as the team grew closer together. I expect awesome things from our Blue Devil ladies this season. It’s going to be great.”
Wa-Hi’s 400 freestyle relay of Fink, Hale, Klem, and Elli Rassbach came home fourth in 4:34.37.
Hale added a fifth in the 100 butterfly with a 1:06.69 swim. Elise Brown took fifth in both the 50 backstroke and the 50 breast stroke. In the 50 back, Brown, a freshman, swam 37.56 and in the 50 breast, she turned a 54.97.
Hale added an eighth in the 100 back with a swim of 1:08.69. In the 100 breast, Wa-Hi placed three in the top 10. Fink, Rassbach, and Hale all recorded top 10 finishes.
The Blue Devils head to Kennewick for the MCC Invite Saturday.
