WALLA WALLA — Mismatch would have been a kind way to describe Walla Walla Community College’s victory over Green River in NWAACC women’s soccer action Saturday afternoon at Warrior Field.
The Warriors tallied three goals in the first half and a half-dozen more after intermission in a 9-0 chomping of the Gators.
WWCC improved to 5-0-1 on the season and are 1-0-1 in league play. The Gators suffered their first loss after beginning the 2013 campaign 3-0-2.
Julie Belden used a through pass from the midfield by Lexi Miller to register the game’s first goal just 26 seconds after the opening whistle.
Shauntice Perrigo made it 2-0 with a goal in the 14th minute, assisted by Belden, and Delaney Romero scored at the 20-minute mark to give Walla Walla a 3-0 lead. The latter goal was set up by a Tash Anderson assist.
It only got worse for the visitors in the second half.
Anderson contributed another assist in the 49th minute. It led to a goal by Amanda Jones that increased the Warriors’ margin to four, 4-0.
Romero followed the Jones marker with one of her own just 60 seconds later to build the lead to 5-0.
Anderson and Belden teamed up on a pair of productive corner kicks that left the Warriors on the long end of a 7-0 score. Belden delivered the corners that Anderson headed into the Gators’ goal in the 56th and 63rd minutes, respectively.
Olivia Rodgers scored in the 70th minute, assisted by Brigit Lyons, and added an assist on an Alli Madril goal at the 73-minute mark that ended the scoring.
“Our start was the most important thing,” WWCC coach Chad Bodnar said. “We had chances to finish. It was good for us.”
Walla Walla hosts two NWAACC foes next weekend. The Warriors play Shoreline Friday at 2 p.m. and Everett at noon on Saturday.
