WALLA WALLA — Walla Walla Community College’s volleyball team played what coach Tim Toon called “probably the most complete match of the season to date” in a three-set romp past visiting Umpqua at the Dietrich Dome on Thursday.
“For most of the match, the error monster stayed away and we were able to string quality together in long stretches,” Toon said. “It was a good night for the Warriors.”
JaLise Jose was “dominating in all phases of the game” as she put up 12 kills, nine digs and four blocks, Toon said.
Chantelle Zamora, out of Walla Walla High School, is a “dynamic freshman that is playing with a lot of maturity,” Toon said, while recording eight kills, 14 digs and three blocks.
Denise Comfort each smacked seven kills.
“She’s getting better and better every match,” Toon said of Comfort.
“(Chester) is stringing great matches together,” he said.
Allie Johnson dished out 20 assists and had four aces.
“She had a solid match running the offense and she used her serve as a nice weapon,” Toon said.
Delaney Fisher came up with 10 digs, and Breanna Mehling had 16 assists and eight digs.
“We can now turn our attention to the home Crossover,” Toon said of the eight-team tournament that tips off today at the Dietrich Dome. “The field of teams is pretty strong and I look forward to contributions from all 13 players before the weekend is over.”
The Warriors open the Crossover at 1 p.m. today, again facing Umpqua. They continue pool play at 3:30 against Shoreline and finish up at 6 p.m. as they play Green River.
Pool play is best 2-of-3.
The tournament wraps up Saturday with best 3-of-5 bracket play.
