Gran Fondo flashes by fields of the Walla Walla Valley

Participants in the annual Providence St. Mary Regional Cancer Center Gran Fondo fundraiser bike past some ripening grapes along Berney Drive on Saturday morning. Hundreds of people rode bikes, motorcycles, horses and walked or jogged to raise money for the center. In past years, the event has raised approximately $15,000 and drawn around 500 participants. This year’s event included walks as short as 2.5 miles and a motorcycle ride of 125 miles. With the exception of the horse ride, all the events began and ended at Walla Walla Community College, where an Octoberfest lunch was served to the participants. The horse ride took off from nearby Bennington Lake.
