POMEROY — Idaho nipped Washington, 39-36, to claim the fourth annual Border Battle volleyball tournament title here Saturday.
The 10-team tourney featured five teams from both states.
The host Pirates won nine of 15 games on the day.
Troy and Genesee paced the Idaho contingent by going 15-0 and 13-2, respectively. Prairie of Cottonwood went 7-8, Orofino was 4-11, and Kamiah was 0-15.
Clarkston posted an 8-7 mark, the second best among Washington schools. Both St. John-Endicott and Asotin were 7-8 and Dayton finished 5-10.
Washington held a 36-33 lead in games before Troy took three games from Clarkston and Genesee did the same against Pomeroy.
Savannah Ruark had 34 kills, Mackenzie Monahan added 32, and Ally Bott contributed 29 terminations to lead Pomeroy. Kacey Halbert had 30 digs and 14 aces for the Pirates.
“We’ve had the same group of teams every year,” Pomeroy coach Bruce Crossfield said. “They want to keep coming back. It’s a format that everyone seems to enjoy.”
