Monte Shane Smith, 51, passed on to be with the Lord on July 17, 2013, at his home in Milton-Freewater. A memorial service will be held on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater, with Pastor Duane Geyer officiating.
Monte was born in Walla Walla on May 20, 1962, to his loving parents Willard and Beverly Smith. He attended schools in Milton-Freewater and graduated from McLoughlin High School in 1980.
Shortly after graduation Monte moved to Portland to paint ships in the shipyards. Monte then moved back to Milton-Freewater to be with his family and to work with his best friend, his dad. He painted and restored automobiles until his health would no longer allow him to.
While still in Portland, Monte met Lisa Faircloth and in July of 1989, he met the love of his life when Lisa gave birth to his beautiful daughter, Savannah. Monte enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his daughter, Savannah, and his granddaughter, Cali Marie. Monte proudly earned the title of “Best Grandpa Ever” to Cali Marie, who was the light of his life, and Ali.
Monte had a passion for life, but golf being his main activity. He played golf every day and was an excellent golfer and celebrated many Hole-in-Ones at the Milton Freewater Municipal Golf Course. He loved the outdoors, including motocross, snowmobiling, stock car racing, hunting, fishing and camping. He was fun-loving, friendly and a kindhearted person.
Monte is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Savannah Faircloth and Nick Meadows; a granddaughter, Cali Marie Meadows; his parents, Willard and Beverly Smith; sister and brother-in-law, Sharrall (Smith) Rakestraw and Dennis Rakestraw; brother and sister-in-law, Steve Smith and Raylene Partin; and sister and brother-in-law, Lisa (Smith) Hinton and David Hinton. He is also survived by his partner of many years, Deborah Clark, and her daughters, Katy Clark, Kerry Clark; granddaughter, Alisha Sheets; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Monte was preceded in death by his grandparents, Flo and Walter Smith and Ned and Alice Feigner; a nephew, Brandon Rakestraw; and a daughter, Alazsha Allen.
