WALLA WALLA — Two men tried to hunt down a man they claim robbed them at gunpoint early Saturday near Carrie Avenue.
According to a police report, officers were dispatched to a report of two men making noise and banging on cars and houses in the 700 block of Carrie Avenue at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
When police contacted the two men, 19 and 20, they said they were looking for a man who had robbed them a short time earlier.
Tim Bennett, Walla Walla police spokesman, said the two reported an unidentified man approached them and offered to sell them drugs or a gun. The two men said they declined the offer, and the man returned a short time later and held them up, absconding with cash, jewelry and an e-cigarette.
“(The victims) took it upon themselves to attempt to get their items back,” Bennett said. “They did arm themselves, but not with any firearms.”
Bennett did not say what type of weapons the men had, but added the two were intoxicated. Bennett also said officers recovered a bicycle the men had taken from a yard after they failed to locate their assailant. Bennett said the bike was returned to the rightful owner.
Bennett said the “common sense” approach would not be confronting an armed robber.
“Call 911,” Bennett said. “Do not confront the suspect after the fact.”
Bennett added that the case has been turned over to detectives. “There’s just a lot more work to do,” he said.
