Dayton holds fifth-set lead before dropping match to Asotin

ASOTIN — The Dayton volleyball team simply could not sustain its momentum after an opening set win, losing in five sets to Southeast 2B conference foe Asotin here Tuesday.

Dayton won the first set 25-6, before dropping the next two sets 25-19 and 25-10. The Bulldogs rallied back in the fourth set, winning 25-20, before losing the pivotal fifth set, 16-14.

Dayton head coach Shannon Turner said the Bulldogs were up four in the fifth set, before the Panthers bounced back.

“We started out strong in the first game with good consistent passes and we were able to set up our offense and score,” Turner said. “We struggled in the next two games with communication, which caused some unforced errors.”

Courtney Mings scored 11 points for the Bulldogs, as she finished with eight kills and 15 digs. Madison Mings added six kills, five blocks and 22 digs. Sarah Phillips led the team with 24 digs. Chelsea Wooldridge finished with a team-high 22 assists and 26 digs.
