WALLA WALLA — Chiawana won a Mid-Columbia Conference girls soccer match with Walla Walla High School, 5-0, on Tuesday.
“The score doesn’t reflect it, but the girls played really well,” Blue Devils coach Keven Peck said. “We had the lion’s share of possession, but we struggled to make the pass that releases players in behind the defense to have chances on goal. Chiawana did a good job of capitalizing when we made an errant pass and used their speed to counter against us.”
The Riverhawks’ Alexis Stephenson enjoyed a hat trick in the match, scoring in the 21st, 24th and 38th minutes.
Sydney Virgen booted Chiawana’s third goal of the match in the 29th minute, and Braydey Hodgins rounded out scoring in the 52nd minute.
The Riverhawks put up 18 shots on goal to Wa-Hi’s two.
“All of the girls made huge strides in the understanding of our tactics,” Peck said. “I am proud of their willingness to stick with what we are trying to accomplish and not give up when we face some adversity. As a coaching staff, we are seeing what we need to see. We just need to find a way to finish a good possession with a goal. We are patient — it will happen.”
The Blue Devils head to Kamiakin at 1 p.m. Saturday.
