CONNELL — Josie Lonai placed third in the Connell Invite cross country meet Saturday to lead McLoughlin High School after running the 5,000-meter course in 20:06.1.
Riverside High School from Chattaroy, Wash., won the girls title out of 13 teams.
Susie Romero-Diaz was the next Pioneer to cross, finishing 11th in 21:34.0.
“Both Josie and Susie had great days,” Mac-Hi coach John Milleson said. “They both had personal bests.”
On the boys side, Austin Cousineau led Mac-Hi with a 28th-place finish in 18:20.6. Cameron Johnson of Southridge High School won the boys race in 17:10.3.
Riverside also won the boys team title.
Mindy Harmon (28:32.5) was the other Pioneer representative in the girls race.
Tristan Warne (20:14.0), Mario Carrillo (20:48.9), Cody Harmon (21:04.1), Colin Dygert (21:45.6) and Dakota Rencken (21:47.7) rounded out the Pioneer boys team.
“I’m happy with how we competed given the wind and rainy conditions,” Milleson said. “We ran well.”
Mac-Hi travels to the La Grande Invite Friday.
