SPOKANE — No. 1 St. Georges raced to a 3-0 halftime lead over Waitsburg-Prescott Saturday and coasted home with a 6-2 win.
St. Georges scored in the 10th and 12th minute and W-P never recovered. St. Georges added another in the 28th minute to take the 3-0 lead to intermission.
With a goal in the 46th and 60th minute, St. Georges enjoyed a 5-0 lead before W-P got one into the back of the net. In the 67th minute, Ernesto Valdovinos scored for W-P to cut the lead to 5-1.
St. Georges answered in the 72nd minute to put this one out of reach at 6-1 with eight minutes left. In the 75th minute, Jose Paniagua found Ivan Figueroa and Figueroa finished to run the final tally to 6-2.
Christian Caro had three saves in the net for W-P.
“We made critical defensive mistakes early,” W-P assistant coach Jay Potts said. “You can’t make mistakes against the No. 1 team in the state and get away with them.”
W-P drops to 4-2 and hosts Moses Lake Christian Monday in Prescott.
