WALLA WALLA — A free tire collection event will be this weekend at the gravel lot on Tausick Way across from the Mill Creek Sports Complex in Walla Walla.
It will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, but may end early if the collection truck is filled.
The event is open to all Walla Walla County residents. Participants will be asked to provide proof of residency by showing a valid Washington driver’s license, utility bill or county property tax statement with an address in Walla Walla County.
People can dispose of up to 10 regular car, light truck or motorcycle tires per address per day. No tractor, large truck, tires over 36 inches or tires on wheels will be accepted. Tires will not be accepted from businesses or other nonresidential sources.
Tire collections held in Walla Walla County over the last three years have gathered more than 9,000 tires which have been sent to a recycling facility in Portland. Recycled tires are used to make items such as parking bumpers, door mats and landscaping materials.
The event is sponsored by the Walla Walla Joint Community Development Agency with funding support from the state Department of Ecology.
