ADAMS, ORE. — Adams was bathed in blue for National Autism Awareness Day.
Holli Larsen has a 3-year-old son with autism. After watching a news report on the subject, she decided to raise awareness by gathering enough lights to turn the Eastern Oregon community blue.
The East Oregonian reports she called the Home Depot in Hermiston to see if it had 200 blue light bulbs. The store only had 47.
After learning why Larsen needed them, merchandising manager Jason DiDesidero called other stores until he found enough. He then drove to Yakima, Richland and College Place to pick them up.
Home Depot refused payment.
Larsen, her husband and two friends then canvassed Adams, population 350, asking their neighbors to shine the bulbs Wednesday night.
