UMATILLA — The Touchet baseball team’s extra focus on hitting during practice this week paid off as the Indians downed Umatilla 10-2 on Thursday.
Touchet (2-2) raced out to a 7-1 lead heading into the bottom of the third inning after scoring three runs in the first and four in the third. The Indians were able to stay aggressive on the base paths, which helped them take advantage of Umatilla’s three errors.
“We were actually hitting the ball,” Touchet coach Tim McKeown said. “We were being aggressive. It’s nice to see. The kids come out and start swinging the bats. The kids were going up swinging. It made a big difference in the game.”
Tim Weber and Taylor Schaak combined to restrict the Umatilla hitters to only three hits and held the Vikings to no runs after the third.
The Indians open league play at Colton next Saturday.
