DeBaugh throws no-hitter; Warriors sweep Big Bend

MOSES LAKE — The Walla Walla Community College softball team dropped a pair of games to red-hot Spokane Friday night, but rebounded with a pair of slugfest mercy-rule wins over Big Bend Saturday, 9-1 and 12-0.

Hanna DeBaugh picked up a no-hitter and came ever so close to throwing a perfect game in the nightcap against Big Bend, a lone hit batter spoiling an otherwise flawless outing.

“All of our pitchers have been working very hard with pitching coach Erica Hancock,” WWCC coach March Michaud said. “The no-hitter was icing on the cake. We played very well all around today and to be part of this special moment for Hanna was great for our team.”

Jamie Moe had a strong outing for the Warriors in the first game against Big Bend as well, giving up just one run and scattering seven hits in five innings.

The Warriors had no such success against Spokane on Friday, however. The Sasquatch, who have now won eight in a row and are tied for second in the NWAACC East Region, held WWCC scoreless in 4-0 and 8-0 wins.

The Warriors (9-10 overall, 7-4 East) have a narrow lead over Columbia Basin for third place in the East Region standings and host the Hawks on Tuesday for a doubleheader at 4 p.m.
