Hagen Biloff

Hagen Biloff was born July 23, 1917, at home in Carrington, N.D., to William and Julia (Huff) Biloff. He died at his home April 9, 2014, at 96 years of age. He grew up in the Hawk’s Nest Hills and attended local schools. He graduated high school from Sheyenne River Academy and briefly attended Union College in Lincoln, Neb.

It was wartime and employees were needed at Lockheed Aircraft in Los Angeles. Hagen accepted a job cutting tail pieces for the P38 aircraft. After six months alone in LA, he asked for his fiancé to join him. Hagen married Gladys Christina Juhl on June 1, 1941. They have been married for 73 years. Hagen moved his wife and 4-month-old son back to the Biloff homestead two years later. He worked the land with cattle and sheep and various grain crops for the next 24 years. Three more sons and one daughter were added to the family during that time period.

After moving from the farm to Minnesota and then to the Milton-Freewater area, he went into the construction business and built several homes. He enjoyed working with his sons on a number of these projects. Later he opened and operated a lumber yard in Milton-Freewater.

Hagen is preceded in death by his parents; six siblings; and five grandchildren. He is survived by his dear wife, Gladys; his five children, DeVern, Dennis, Neil, Lana and Wade; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He enjoyed woodworking his entire life. In his later years, he became proficient in wood carving. Hagen enjoyed travel. He and Gladys spent 10 years traversing the country in their motor home. They traveled to all states except those in the New England area during those years. He was a lifelong member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, loved his Lord, and his family.
