POMEROY — Pomeroy softball player Emma Woodland clubbed six hits over two games as the Pirates split a doubleheader with Rosalia on Saturday.

Woodland opened game one with two doubles and a triple before bombing a home run and smacking two singles in the nightcap. Pomeroy (3-5 overall, 1-1 in Southeast 1B) won the first game, 14-4, before Rosalia took revenge, 12-9, in game two.

“She has been struggling throughout the year and then this game she came out as a leader and just pounded the ball,” Pomeroy coach Jessica Nelson said of her catcher. “She really worked hard behind the plate — got a quite a few pickoffs. She did a great job.”

The rest of the Pomeroy offense followed Woodland’s lead, as Kacey Halbert and Esther Schuh both collected four hits over the two games. The Pirates slugged 21 hits combined over the two games.

The Pirates held a 7-4 lead heading into the top of the fourth in game two, but three consecutive Pomeroy errors loaded the bases. Rosalia ended up scoring five in the frame to claim the lead for good.

Pomeroy returns to action on the road at Waitsburg-Prescott on Tuesday.
