Mary Lois Hunt was born to Ora Theodore and Hazel Ione Wynkoop in Spokane on Dec 1, 1920, and passed away with family at her side on April 4, 2014, in Walla Walla. Mary Lois graduated from Rogers High School in Spokane in 1939 and Eastern Washington College in Cheney in 1942 with a three-year elementary certificate. She taught art at the Dayton intermediate school until December 1944. She married and moved to Ryegate, Mont. She and her husband adopted four children, Leslie Ann, Bette, Terry and Jerry. She was active in the Ryegate Methodist Church, Ladies Aide group, and raising a family.

On Feb 19, 1967, Mary Lois married Raymond Hunt, her college sweetheart, and they honeymooned in Hawaii. The newlyweds took over the operation of the family farm near Kahlotus. They adopted two children, Shawn and Tresa. They later purchased their own farm near Washtucna and continued farming both places until their retirement to Walla Walla in August 1983. While on the farm, Mary Lois enjoyed singing in the church choir, ladies circle, sewing and painting. She and Ray enjoyed Grange activities, traveling, attending Connell Methodist Church and Washtucna Community Church, and their children’s activities. Mary Lois loved flowers and looked forward every spring to the first flowers that bloomed in her flower beds. Mary Lois was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking, canning, baking and entertaining family on holidays. After retirement, Mary Lois enjoyed water aerobics, crocheting and Delphian book club. She was a member of the Yarnettes group and also crocheted toys, baby blankets, sweaters and booties for many family members. She and Ray enjoyed traveling and visiting family, fishing and attended church at Pioneer United Methodist and College Place Presbyterian for many years. Mary Lois also took a trip to Europe with her daughter Bette in 1986, staying with daughter Tresa and family in Germany and traveling to London, Holland, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Austria. Mary Lois always remembered family and friends with cards for birthdays and holidays until she could no longer do so because of physical limitations.

Mary Lois was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Betty Jane Holt. Mary Lois is survived by her husband, Raymond Hunt; children, Leslie Ann Mulder of Bullhead, Ariz., Bette Larsen of Kennewick, Terry Broderson of Broadview, Mont., Jerry Broderson and wife Linda of Billings, Mont., Shawn Hunt, and Tresa Floyd and husband Robin of Walla Walla. Mary Lois had 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Memorial service will be April 18, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Pioneer United Methodist Church, Walla Walla. Viewing is at Herring-Groseclose Funeral Home on April 18, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.. Interment at Moran Cemetery, Spokane, on April 19, 2014, at 2 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Pioneer United Methodist Church through the funeral home at 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA 99362.
