SPOKANE — Jesse Houser threw a complete-game 6-3 victory in the opener of an NWAACC East Region baseball twin bill with Spokane here Wednesday, and the Warriors finished off the sweep in a 10-inning win in the nightcap.
Houser struck out three Sasquatch while giving up seven hits in the opening win.
The Warriors held a 1-0 lead in the fifth before Spokane took a 2-1 edge. Walla Walla plated three in the eighth, but was tied by the Sasquatch in the bottom of the ninth with a pair of runs.
Walla Walla pulled out the sweep with three 10th-inning runs.
“Jesse controlled the first game besides the one bad inning in the sixth, where he really just made two bad pitches,” Warrior coach Dave Meliah said. “Besides that, he was outstanding.”
Jake Browne had three hits in each game for WWCC.
“Jake Browne had a mammoth day,” Meliah said. “He was clutch the whole day, especially in game two by driving in the go-ahead runs in the eighth inning and again in the 10th inning. He was putting great swings on the ball and you could tell he was seeing it really well.”
After the Sasquatch rallied to tie it up in the ninth inning of the nightcap, the Warriors responded with three 10th-inning runs.
“We had our backs against the wall when they tied it in the ninth, and we didn’t panic,” Meliah said. “We just went back to work. That was really nice to see.”
The Warriors, now 19-5 overall and 10-4 in the NWAACC East, host Yakima at 1 p.m. Saturday.
