PENDLETON — McLoughlin High’s boys golfers weathered a rainy round of golf and finished eighth at the 10-team Pendleton Invitational at Pendleton Country Club Thursday.
Andrew Kain led the Pioneers an 81 on the par-72 course.
He was followed by Rain Wheeler at 89, Riley Chester 93 and Evan Kain 94. Sterling Sandberg carded a non-counting 98.
The Buckaroos won the event on their home course with a team score of 322, followed by Hanford at 325, Hermiston 334, Richland and The Dalles at 336, Kamiakin 342, Baker 343, Mac-Hi, La Grande at 381 and Hood River 422.
“This was a tough day day for the kids,” Pioneers coach Barry Wofford said. “We played in a steady rain all day, so the scores were not as good as we would have liked. It was the same old story as we had too many holes with high numbers. But I feel we are getting closer and if can get rid of those 7s, 8s and 9s we can can start playing some good golf.”
Mac-Hi heads to La Grande this afternoon.
