WALLA WALLA — Walla Walla High School scored early and often here in Mid Columbia Conference soccer action Saturday at the Blue Devil pitch. Wa-Hi scored three unanswered first half goals and went on to shut out Richland, 4-0.

Christian Segovia found the back of the Bomber goal on an assist from Alexis Medina eight minutes into the match to open the scoring.

“We pretty well dominated,” Blue Devil coach Mike Washington said. “We were able to play a lot of guys and that’s always good.”

Medina found Adrian Sandoval and Sandoval finished to produce a 2-0 Wa-Hi lead.

The Blue Devils weren’t finished there, as Segovia scored his second of the half, this one on an assist from Francisco Sanchez, and Wa-Hi went to intermission up 3-0.

The Blue Devils substituted freely in the second half, but Sanchez produced the lone score of the half. Abel Pena got the ball to Sanchez for Sanchez to complete the Blue Devil scoring and run the lead to 4-0.

Mason Ahrens posted the shut out in goal for Wa-Hi, but he had plenty of help from the Blue Devil defense. Ahrens only had to make one save in blanking the Bombers.

“We kept them out (of scoring opportunities),” Washington added of the Blue Devil defensive effort.

Wa-Hi improves to 5-5 in the MCC and travels to Pasco Tuesday.

“The league has been pretty even this year,” Washington said. “If we win out, we will give ourselves a chance at the No. 2 seed into the post season.”
