LA GRANDE — The McLoughlin High School golf team placed third out of the four teams competing at the La Grande Country Club on Friday. The Pioneers finished just two strokes behind second-place Baker.
Pendleton won with a team score of 336, Baker shot a 357 and Mac-Hi fired a 359. The host team, La Grande, brought up the rear with a 362.
Mac-Hi’s Rain Wheeler led the Pioneers with an 86 and Andrew Kain fired an 87. Pendleton’s Riley Hegarty took medalist honors with a 79.
Sterling Sandberg (91), Evan Kain (95) and Riley Chester (103) rounded out the Pioneer score card.
“The course played really tough as only one player, Riley Hegarty from Pendleton broke 80,” Mac-Hi coach Barry Wofford said. “Rain Wheeler came in fourth overall with his 86.”
